Unfortunately, there is no outdoor swimming pool in Brussels, apart from Oceade, which is really a water park and therefore comparatively expensive. If you are prepared to travel a little further afield, Belgium has several outdoor pools dispersed throughout its various towns, villages and recreational parks. Many of these are heated, toddler-friendly and in close proximity to playgrounds, children’s farms, kiosks and lush green surroundings. We’ve listed a few of the best:

 

BRUSSELS

All the heated pools are aimed at children under 12. There is a paddling pool (20cm deep) for toddlers, and a children’s pool with a maximum depth of 1 meter. Located in a large family reserve with kiosks, playgrounds, a small petting farm, water activities and more.

The pool has been renovated for the 2012 season.         There are 3 solar heated pools including a paddling pool for toddlers. Set in a large family reserve with 15 playgrounds, boating activities, tourist train and kiosk.

 

LIEGE

There are 3 pools, one for children under 6 that is 40 cm deep, a larger pool for older children and a competition pool connected to a fun pool 1.4 m deep with a slide and water cannons. Set in 22 ha park with children’s playgrounds, water activities, BBQ and nature paths.

 

Most pools will close in poor weather conditions so if in doubt, call ahead to check if pool is open.

Some pools are attached to indoor centres which are open all year long.

Many pools, especially ones as part of provincial domains, offer discounted rates for local residents so remember to take along identity cards as proof to qualify for lower entry fees.
