Volunteer opportunities

Thank you for your interest in finding out more about volunteering with the BCT.

Although in some cases we do accept volunteers who are not BCT members we do give preference to our members and prefer to fill our volunteer roles from within our membership.

On this page you will find a brief description of the roles we are currently seeking volunteers to help with. If something sparks an interest please feel free to get in contact for more details and a more detailed role description.

The time commitment needed for a Volunteer role varies. You can volunteer for a ‘one off’ hour at one of our events such as our Funday or an hour a week helping with one of our playgroups stretching to several hours a week in one of our coordinating or administration roles. We can usually find something to fit into everyone’s time schedule and skill set.

I look forward to hearing from you soon and please remember just by getting in touch and asking more questions does not mean you are committing yourself to anything. Please feel free also to contact us if you have something to offer that is not on this list. An idea for something new perhaps?

It cannot be stressed enough that without our volunteers the BCT simply could not exist!

Kind regards, Shelley volunteering@bctbelgium.org or call 052 42 81 72

Service Team booking coordinators

Do you have access to a computer, some time to spare and like working with excel and spreadsheets? Then why not consider helping the BCT Service Team out? Our Service Team is looking for two additional volunteers to help coordinate bookings for our Pregnancy in Belgium (PIB) evening classes and to send out invoices for both PIB and Prenatal classes. It is a super friendly team to work with and all the work can be done from the comfort of your own home!

Information Team Emails

The BCT Information team answers email from both prospective BCT Members and long standing ones on a wide range of topics. They are currently looking for a new volunteer to join this team. Usually each volunteer agrees to check the account on a set day of the week so it can take a little as 10 – 20 minutes a week. This is a great way of learning more about living in Belgium and at the same time a way to help lots of families in Belgium.

Co-Organiser for New Mum’s Group

At the beginning of June our Prenatal teacher Kate Elwood kindly started up a new drop in group for new parents or parents-to-be on a Tuesday morning at Imagine. In September meetings will also be held at Holy Trinity Church and she would love to find another volunteer who could help her co-organise this group so it can meet up more often. If you are a new parent or someone who would like to support new parents and interested to help Kate then we would love to hear from you.

Halloween Party Volunteers

Do you enjoy the fun of Halloween parties? Do you enjoy helping to organise games, decorations, dancing or refreshments? Maybe you would consider volunteering to be part of our Events Team and help out with this annual BCT Family event in October.

Imagine Representative

We have advertised this role now for nearly a year and unfortunately no one have stepped forward so it is now quite urgent that we find someone. The role involves liaising with Imagine Staff and bringing any issues at Imagine to the attention of the BCT Board. If you visit Imagine once a week to attend a playgroup or live close by this would be a perfect little role. The ability to speak French would also be a big advantage.

October Nearly New Sale Committee

We are already busy preparing for the next BCT Nearly New Sale on Sunday 22 October.

We are still looking for 5 new Number Allocators (NA) anywhere in Brussels; Ixelles, Uccle, Kraainem, Woluwe, St-Pierre, St Josse, Schaerbeek, Saint Gilles, Etterbeek, Kraainem, Wezembeek-Oppem .....

It is one of the most rewarding roles where you get first access to sale items (even before the committee). The role involves giving out seller numbers and receiving seller information around 5 weeks before the sale, organising item drop off at the NA's home, scheduling a date/time to have a quality check where all the items are checked one week before the sale, helping out during the sale weekend, and setting a time/date with the sellers to come and pick up their unsold items at the NA's home. First time NA's will be paired up with experienced ones who can ‘walk’ the new volunteer through the responsibilities and there is also a detailed NA handbook available with step by step responsibilities.

If you are interested to learn more Shadae, our Sale Chair, will be happy to talk to you! Email her at sale@bctbelgium.org.

October Nearly New Sale ‘On the day helpers’

  • Help on Saturday 21 October with the set up of the hall
  • Help on Sunday 22 October with set up, looking after the hall during the sale, cash desks and clear up

The link will be published on the events page in the members' zone on 9 September.

BCT Vice President

The BCT AGM in March may seem a long way off at the moment but it is actually just 2 more Small Talk issues away. This is why we are beginning to think about the BCT Board for the year 2018 and most importantly beginning to search for a volunteer to become our next Vice President. This Vice President would become President in March 2019. If you are interested to learn more about the role please do not hesitate to get in contact.

Group Co-Organisers

After the summer holidays several of our Group Organisers have stepped down from their roles as their own children have started school. We are therefore looking for some new volunteers to carry on their great work and help out with the following groups.

No special skills are needed to be a Group-Organiser, just a friendly face and the willingness to be there on a regular basis. However this need not mean every week as several Co-Organsiers can share the Group or it can run every other week or even monthly. Korrine, our Groups Coordinator, would love to hear from you and is happy to explain further what being a Group Organiser/Co-organiser actually involves. Contact her at groups@bctbelgium.org.

Ideas for a new group? If you have ideas for a new group at Imagine or Holy Trinity there are morning and afternoon slots free so please also get in touch. Groups do not always have to have a craft or music theme. In the past general ‘free play’ giving parents time to chat over a coffee have also been just as successful!

Imagine playgroup organisers

- Imagine Monday morning ‘ Make & Do’

- Imagine Monthly Weekend Playgroup

- Co-Organiser needed for new Tuesday Morning Playgroup!
We are searching for another volunteer to help with a new Tuesday morning playgroup at Imagine aimed at our postnatal course groups. If you enjoy welcoming new families and helping them make the most of their BCT membership then this could be the ideal volunteer role for you working closely with our prenatal teachers.

Holy Trinity playgroup organisers

The BCT is always on the look out for new Group Organisers and Co-Organisers. If you have some time to help out one morning or afternoon with a Holy Trinity Group, our Groups Coordinator Korrine would love to receive your email and kind offer to help out! Email her at groups@bctbelgium.org.
