Hypnobirthing Courses

Release fear, Build Your Confidence

Pregnancy and childbirth are exciting events in our lives, but they can also be somewhat daunting. Maybe it’s your first time and you don’t know what to expect, or maybe you have been through it before and would like things to be different this time. Whatever your situation, our Hypnobirthing course (hybrid or online) helps you feel relaxed and confident and is suitable for pregnant parents at any stage.

"The hypnobirthing course was very helpful throughout my labor and the birth. It gave me confidence during early labor at home and strength and focus during active labor at the hospital. I’m thankful to say that I had a positive birth experience - we felt confident and respected while at the hospital, I was able to avoid major interventions, and everyone is healthy. Thank you again for your help and expertise!"

About KG Hypnobirthing

KGH is a specialised, in-depth birth education course. Over 12 hours you will learn how to release fear and gain a powerful toolkit of techniques including breathing, visualisation and self-hypnosis to help you journey confidently through your labour. By using self-hypnosis techniques, you, as the one in control, will be able to put yourself into an altered state of awareness during labour to remain relaxed and calm. Hypnobirthing acknowledges the importance of the birth companion’s role and gives them a specific part to play.

This course offers insight into how to use hypnobirthing within the medical system in which you find yourself. This is extremely important as the environment you are in and the people around you can make a significant difference to your experience of giving birth. Our hypnobirthing teacher Kate Ellwood shares her extensive knowledge in the Belgian maternity system within the course in order to provide the best possible preparation.

We organise free monthly information sessions "Let's Talk Hypnobirthing!" (see upcoming dates below.)

Courses are open to everyone, to be booked together with a one-year membership (unless you are already a member) which can help parents settle into their new lives as a family. Apart from a wide range of socialising opportunities for parents and children, the membership gives you access to some excellent and helpful support services and classes such as babywearing information and the sling library, the cloth nappy library, postnatal exercises as well as free playgroups and information talks and four times per year Small Talk the BCT magazine.

“The online hypnobirthing classes with Kate were great. We learnt all about hypnobirthing and discussed how we ideally wanted the birth to go. We also learnt a lot about the physical side to birth, which we didn’t know before as we hadn’t completed any prenatal courses with our first child. I particularly enjoyed practising the relaxation techniques, it helped me to unwind at the end of a long day and focus on preparing for the birth.”

Kate EllwoodAbout Kate

Kate is a KG Hypnobirthing Accredited Teacher and, through the BCT's antenatal teacher training programme, trained with the NCT in the UK, gaining a Diploma in Antenatal Education.  All her acquired knowledge, skills and experience as an antenatal teacher, her previous experience as a specialist nurse inform and enrich her hypnobirthing courses.

”Supporting women and giving them a nudge towards taking control of their birth experience, exploring their options and signposting to resources that enable them to make informed decisions that are right for them and their baby is a huge privilege. I can’t predict the type of birth a woman might have - nobody can!  But, I can share understanding and tools so they can stay calm, be confident in their body to birth their baby and, when birth takes an unexpected turn, make informed and sensible decisions.”

KG Hypnobirthing is accredited by The Royal College of Midwives and is being accepted as the premier UK course for professionals and parents alike. If you are unsure if a KG Hypnobirthing Course is for you, join Kate online at "Let's Talk Hypnobirthing!". This free information session takes place monthly, online via ZOOM at 20:00 (see upcoming dates below). To book your place, please register in advance.

Kate Ellwood also teaches our First Aid for Parents classes.

“As you can tell, we used many of the techniques from the hypnobirthing course during these 8 hours and I am convinced they helped to make the experience empowering and positive. We were able to maintain a calm environment as we went to the maternity ward to recover and as we came home. More importantly, the course helped to give my husband and I a framework to discuss what we would and wouldn’t like and ensure we’re on the same page.”

Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing sounds hippy dippy, and you may feel hypnobirthing is only for a natural birth, or for a certain type of woman, and that it means no pain relief or that you must have a water birth. None of this is true. Hypnobirthing provides you with the skills to make the decisions that fit in with your idea of how birth can be and, which puts you firmly in charge.
